Building a PAWSitive Future Shoe Drive
We are conducting a shoe collection drive from March 24th thru May 15th, 2017 to raise funds for the NEW Shelter & Adoption Center. Through the STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE, we will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated goods. Those dollars will benefit our Capital Campaign. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes at Shoe Sensation, The Senior Center, and Ron and Nita’s. All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send her son to law school.
“We are excited about our shoe drive," said Board VP Julie Ehemann. "We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us and help those less fortunate become self-sufficient. It’s a win-win for everyone,” added Board President Eric Barr.
By donating shoes to our, Stepping into the Future shoe Project, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives! While also helping the homeless pets of Shelby County!

SCARF Launches New Program
SCARF, the Shelby County Animal Shelter, and the City of Sidney are working together to control the feral cat population in Shelby County. A feral cat is a cat that has been born into wildness or has not had human interaction for a significant period of time and is able to survive in the wild.
The Shelby County Animal Shelter will conduct TRAP-Neuter-Return (TNR) clinic for feral cats in the community in 2017 on these dates: March 13th, April 10th, June 12th, August 14th, October 9th & December 14th. SCARF volunteers will work to notify the neighborhood where trapping will occur, trap cats, and return them to their neighborhood once the procedure has been completed. While the cats are at the clinic, they will be vaccinated against rabies and will have an ear tipped for identification purposes. Neighbors will be asked to keep pet cats indoors during the trapping and to refrain from feeding the feral cats so they may be more easily trapped. Funding for the program will be shared by the City of Sidney and SCARF.
According to Alley Cat Allies (a national advocacy organization dedicated to the protection and humane treatment of cats), scientific studies show that Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is the humane and effective approach for managing feral cats. Trap-Neuter-Return improves the life of feral cats, improves their relationship with the people living near them, and decreases the size of colonies over time. The neutered cats will roam less and will not fight for mates thereby creating less noise.
Anyone wishing to volunteer for this program is urged to call the Animal Shelter at 937-498-7201
